Short lease on Summer- Labor Day 2025

There’s a bitter sweetness in this final stretch of summer. The pleasures of the season are still happily with us, but we are acutely aware of their short life. What were once seemingly endless long days and short hot nights are no longer. Remember wondering if it would ever stop raining in May? On the Fourth of July, September seems an eternity away. But now, the sky is blue with clear, dry air; the nights are cool with an occasional bite. The days develop unhurriedly, it takes time heating up.
Many of us will soon move to our “other” home and some of us will remain who have made Old Silver our full time home. Whatever our plans are after Labor Day, we are reminded that “Summer’s lease,” as Shakespeare said “hath all too short a date.”
